According to a report in the Italian editorial Tuttomercatoweb, Bournemouth are eyeing a potential deal for AS Roma’s talented winger Juan Iturbe.
The Cherries are seen by some as contenders for the drop this season, but the South Coast outfit recently climbed up to 14th position in the table following brilliant back-to-back victories against Chelsea and Manchester United.
Eddie Howe seems keen on strengthening his side in the January transfer window, adding more options to key positions after suffering a number of injury setbacks to important players.
Recent reports by Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio state that deals have already been agreed for Napoli duo Jonathan de Guzman and versatile fullback Juan Zuniga.
And now Tuttomercatoweb suggest another Italian-based player could be heading to Dean Court.
“There is another English side on the trail of Juan Iturbe. As already documented, Watford are very keen but also tracking him, however, is Bournemouth as reported by Gazzetta TV,” the report states.
Watford have close links to Italy due to their owners, the Pozzo family, having ties with Udinese and the Hornets have used their superb scouting network to good effect this season.
Bournemouth have not been able to search extensively beyond the British Isles in recent years, but now they are a Premier League side they are better positioned to look at foreign talent.
Iturbe, 22, is predominantly a winger and has often been dubbed the ‘new Lionel Messi’ due to his Argentine background, diminutive statute and similarities in style of play.
The talented youngster has made just three Serie A starts for Roma this season, and a lack of first-team opportunities could prompt a switch away from the Italian capital during January.
