Dele Alli has been one of the revelations of the season in the Premier League, but his success is not a complete surprise.
The now England international had been talked about highly for several seasons, and linked with a number of Premier League sides before he signed with Tottenham Hotspur in January.
In an interview with Complex Mag, Alli has re-affirmed it was Liverpool he idolised as a youngster and Steven Gerrard he admired especially.
He said: "To be honest, I just tried to get whatever [boots] Steven Gerrard was wearing."
Gerrard recently expressed his disappointment that Liverpool did not sign Alli to replace him at Anfield.
He told ESPN: "I was actually disappointed Liverpool didn't sign him. I thought he was certainly a player Liverpool might've tried to go for, especially with me coming to the end.
"He's certainly a player that could play for Liverpool for 15 years, he's got that ability."
Hearing how Alli admired him so much will only make Gerrard more frustrated that the Reds did not push to sign him, a poor decision which lies with the club's much talked about transfer committee.
Alli has quickly settled into becoming a Premier League star, just like Gerrard did after his emergence. He is a box to box player who has already shown he has no fear an international level either, and may get a big chance at Euro 2016 to prove himself further.
