Tottenham coach raves about 'electric' under-21 winger Emmanuel Sonupe

Tottenham coach Ugo Ehiogu was impressed with Emmanuel Sonupe's impact.

Tottenham Hotspur under-21 coach Ugo Ehiogu has spoken of his delight at Emmanuel Sonupe's impact in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday night.

Sonupe came off the bench to win a penalty, which Andros Townsend converted.

After the game it was not Townsend who saw the plaudits, but Sonupe.

Ehiogu told Tottenham's official website: "Emmanuel Sonupe was electric in the time he was on, he looked quick, dangerous and had end product – everything we’d spoken to him about."

As Cristiano Ronaldo will testify, the hardest part step up for a skilful young winger is to add end product to his game.

It's fair to say the Portuguese managed it, going on to become a three time Ballon d'Or winner and setting all kinds of goalscoring records in Spain, but in his early days at Manchester United it was not always that way.

Even just at under-21 level, Sonupe's performance, which saw him have an effort saved by the goalkeeper minutes before he won a penalty, is a step in the right direction for the 19-year-old's development.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Milos Veljkovic, Will Miller and Shaq Coulthirst were all also praised by Ehiogu.

As for Townsend, he also got a mention, but far less glowing than Sonupe. Ehiogu simply said: "Andros got regular crosses into the box and the substitutes had a real impact."
