West Brom legend Brown believes Berahino is wasting his talent.
Speaking to the Express and Star, Baggies legend Tony Brown has expressed his belief that Saido Berahino is wasting his talent and ruining his career due to the attitude he has shown at the Hawthorns this season.
Brown said: “He’s got a great gift of scoring goals and there’s not a lot of players that have got that ability. He’s got it, we’ve all seen it, and while he’s sitting on the bench he’s not able to fulfil his potential and go on and score goals. He’s ruining his own career. I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes in training. But, when you’re not in the side, you should go every day into training performing your best.
Berahino has been on the substitutes bench for the last five games, failing to feature in any of the last three, and it is hard to see why Tony Pulis would put him back in his team given their recent form.
The Baggies are on a four-match unbeaten run, and in Salomon Rondon, they possess a forward who suits their gameplan far better that Berahino ever did.
However, there are doubts about whether Pulis is simply not selecting Berahino due to his lack of place in the team, or because of some ulterior motive to do with the striker’s attitude and mentality.
Brown seems to suggest that the latter is true, although he does admit that he is unsure about the specifics, and the club record appearance holder wants Berahino to simply work as hard as he can to get back into the side.
Nothing will better prove himself to Pulis than consistently putting effort in in training, and Brown does not want to see him waste his career and exceptional talent by just giving up whilst contracted to the Baggies.
