Claudio Ranieri urges calm from his Leicester City players

Leicester City - King Power Stadium

Leicester City beat Chelsea 2-1 at the King Power Stadium yesterday.

Claudio Ranieri has told Sky Sports that he was keen to keep his Leicester City players calm after they beat Chelsea on Monday evening.

The Foxes won 2-1 against Jose Mourinho’s struggling side, and they moved back to the top of the Premier League table as a result.

Ranieri was keen to ensure that his players did not get carried away by their latest triumph though, and he reminded them that their main target is just to avoid relegation.

“I told my players, 'five [more points] and we're safe,” he said. “Five points, we need another five points.' I put a target at the beginning of the season, 40 points. When we achieve 40 points, we change target."

Leicester’s wonderful form since the start of the season has led to talk increasing over whether they could claim a top-four spot.

As things stand, Ranieri’s side are nine points clear of Tottenham Hotspur, who are in fifth heading into the Christmas and New Year fixtures.

Leicester’s win over Chelsea has also put them a staggering 20 points clear of the Blues, after goals from Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez sealed the victory.

Mourinho’s players did threaten a comeback in the latter stages of the match, but they could not get back on level terms – even though Loic Remy netted a late consolation.
