Steve McClaren does not believe many defenders can stop Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko

Moussa Sissoko has been in fine form for Newcastle United recently.

Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren has told the Chronicle that Moussa Sissoko is very difficult to stop when he is on the top of his game.

The Frenchman has been handed a key role by McClaren this season, and he has recently started in a wide position for the Magpies.

Sissoko seems to be thriving in the right wing position, and McClaren was very impressed by the 26-year-old’s display in a 2-1 against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

“Moussa showed his talent,” McClaren sad. “Power, pace – phew when he’s like that, not a lot of people can stop him."

“The key as we say every week, for our wide players it’s difficult.”

Sissoko was a constant threat in Newcastle’s match against Spurs, with his boundless energy proving to be crucial.

The former Toulouse man never stopped running throughout the contest, and he was behind many of his side’s counter-attacks, which caused Mauricio Pochettino’s side problems in the latter stages.

It was arguably Sissoko’s finest performance of the season, and he will hope to keep these standards up now.

Sissoko has been accused of inconsistency during his time at St. James’ Park, but his quality is obvious when he is on form.

Newcastle’s win at White Hart Lane has lifted them out of the drop-zone, with their next match coming against Aston Villa.
