Theo Walcott on how Petr Cech has improved Arsenal this season

The goalkeeper has proved a shrewd buy since joining from Chelsea in the summer.

Theo Walcott has explained to Arsenal’s official website just how Petr Cech has improved them as a side this season.

The goalkeeper was signed from rivals Chelsea in the summer in a deal that has looked like a real coup for the Gunners so far.

The goalkeeping position has been one that they have needed to strengthen for a number of seasons, and Cech has done just that, with a number of impressive performances in the league and Europe.

Walcott is one who has been impressed, and has explained just how Cech has improved them as a side.

“From when we signed him, we all knew how good he was [after] what he achieved at Chelsea,” he told Arsenal Player.

“On a personal level, for him it’s great. He’s changed us completely in that back four. He’s a talker, he believes in us all.”

“That’s why he wanted to join us and having with that presence behind you is always nice to have. He’s very commanding, he’s a leader in the dressing room as well, and he always likes to talk.”

While Petr Cech has been impressive in his goalkeeping duties, such as in the win over Bayern Munich, it is his improvement of the defence which is most noticeable.

The Gunners defence looks a more much solid and competent unit knowing they have Cech behind them than they ever did with David Ospina or Wojciech Szczesny in goal.

The Czech Republic has already joined the long list of Wenger’s best signings at the Emirates, and with him only getting better with age, it is hard to see either player getting much first team in future.

That is a problem for another day though, for now Arsenal fans will be hoping he can continue to guide them to a title challenge this season.
