The French side could make a move for the Magpies forward in January as they look to improve their forward options.
The French side are keen to improve their forward line in the January transfer window and are reportedly exploring a number of options.
Chief among their thoughts is forgotten Newcastle forward Riviere, with those in charge at the club believing he could add some potency in the final third.
He made 23 appearances for the Magpies last season, managing just one goal in the Premier League, but is yet to feature for them this season after undergoing knee surgery in the summer.
He will likely find himself far down the pecking order in Steve McClaren’s side already, though, with the likes of Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Papiss Cisse surely the preferred front three at the club.
As such, move to France could be an attractive one for Riviere, with the forward having enjoyed decent spells with Saint-Etienne and Monaco in the past.
There is a stumbling block to the move, however, with Le10Sport reporting that his current wages are far beyond the reach of the French side, which could also prevent a loan move away from Newcastle.
