Report: Crystal Palace in talks with Stuttgart to sign Georg Niedermeier

Crystal Palace are reportedly keen to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace have already held talks with Stuttgart over signing defender Georg Niedermeier.

Palace are looking to add strength in depth to their squad in the new year, and Alan Pardew is hoping to add options in defence.

Pardew reportedly feels that Niedermeier would be a good addition, and Palace are optimistic at landing him at a cut-price.

The 29-year-old’s contract at Stuttgart is up in the summer, meaning the German side are running out of time to cash in on him.

Palace are said to be willing to pay £750,000 for Niedermeier, and that figure could tempt Stuttgart into selling.

Niedermeier, who played for Bayern Munich earlier in his career, has only played three times for Stuttgart this term.

If the former German youth international does join Palace he will be competing with the likes of Scott Dann, Damien Delaney and Brede Hangelande for a first team place.

The Eagles are also said to be close to completing a deal Tower Hamlets youngster Randell Williams, by the Mail.
