Both Newcastle and Villa are in danger of getting relegated from the Premier League at the end of the season.
Remi Garde’s side suffered yet another loss in the Premier League at the weekend, going down 2-0 to Arsenal at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon.
Meanwhile, Newcastle registered their second successive league win on Sunday evening, getting the better of Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 away from home at White Hart Lane in North London.
"You can see people who want to get in possession of the ball," former Villa midfielder Houghton told talkSPORT while analysing the two teams’ performance at the weekend.
"Wijnaldum has come into his own, Sissoko was getting on it down the right-hand side. His crossing wasn't great but he was a threat.
"You can see people that want to get in possession of the ball. That’s what you’re looking for and I’m not seeing it from the Villa players.”
Interestingly, Newcastle and Villa will face each other at St. James’ Park this coming week.
The Magpies will head into the game at St. James’ Park full of confidence, and they will be back by many to pick up all three points.
Failure to register a win in Newcastle could just about seal Villa’s fate.
