Leeds United fans are not enamoured with Steve Evans' request.
Leeds United head coach Steve Evans has attempted to engage supporters by calling on them to get behind the team.
Evans wants more attention on the football, and for fans to forget about owner Massimo Cellino, and upset over ticket prices.
Evans was speaking after the 0-0 draw with Charlton Athletic, and expressed to BBC Radio Leeds, that getting the owner onside could help maintain his interest, and encourage him to spend in the transfer market this January.
He said: "I would just like to say, I understand the supporters frustration, but I don't get involved in what's happening other than what's on the grass, but I'd just like to say whether the chairman turns up or whether he doesn't, just back the team for the 90 minutes.
"Get right behind us. We know what a section of the supporters are saying but get right behind him and let's encourage the president to spend some money."
Evans may be feeling the pressure somewhat with Cellino looking over his shoulder, while he could also be expressing worry about what will be made available to spend in January.
Leeds are currently 18th in the Championship, and former boss Uwe Rosler's prediction that a top 10 finish would be an achievement seems right about now, but it would take an optimist to consider Leeds have a chance of getting there.
Here is a look at how Leeds United fans reacted on Twitter to Evans' comments...
It's one thing for Evans not to have the balls to stand up to Cellino but to ask the fans not to do so too is pathetic. #lufc— Tommy D (@tdski_LUFC) December 14, 2015
Steve Evans is quickly becoming a puppet, churning out the usual cliches. When will it change? #lufc— Thomas Bradley (@TBradley23) December 14, 2015
Evans again is right imho, this section of support (that's what it is) need to reign it in, see if Cellino spends...If not crack on? #lufc— Wayne (@5O887) December 14, 2015
When Steve Evans earns the fans respect by improving things on the pitch then maybe they will start to take notice of what he says #lufc— Nasty (@nastylufc) December 14, 2015
