Taking a closer look at what Newcastle United could do in the upcoming transfer window.
Newcastle United had an awful start to the current Premier League campaign but Steve McClaren’s side appear to have turned a corner after beating Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur in their last two outings.
The win against Spurs was particularly impressive given the fact that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had not lost any of their last 14 top flight games. But just because the Magpies have climbed out of the bottom three, that does not mean they will not be looking to strengthen when the transfer window opens next month.
Newcastle showed they can have a very effective substitutes’ bench when Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic came on late to score the goals at White Hart Lane, but it needs a strong squad to ensure Premier League survival so who could McClaren move for in the upcoming transfer window?
Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is a regular in the rumour mill these days, with the Daily Mail reporting just last weekend that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley was preparing an £8million bid. And given his talent he would be a canny addition at St. James’ Park.
The former Liverpool and Charlton Athletic player may be hard to prise away from the Liberty Stadium given that a new manager is soon to take charge, but if Newcastle succeed with a bold bid Shelvey would considerably improve their options in that area.
With all that in mind, could this be Newcastle’s starting XI come 2016?
