Weinzierl seems to be relishing the opportunity to face Jurgen Klopp again.
The game will signal the first time Klopp will return to Germany as a manager with the Reds, though some will have liked the match-up to have been against Klopp's old side Borussia Dortmund, who were drawn against FC Porto.
Winzierl told a press conference, as reported by This is Anfield, that there is much anticipation over both Liverpool and Klopp's visit ahead of the two side's first ever meeting.
He said: "Liverpool are a cult and Jurgen is a huge name in Germany so I'm happy for the whole club.
"We will do everything in that we can. This game is something special. We will be underdogs against Liverpool but this is a role we like to assume.
"We have courage and confidence. Jurgen Klopp knows us and will not underestimate us."
Klopp has only lost one of his meetings against Augsburg and given his team selections at the group stages, it is likely that he will continue to take the competition seriously going into the latter rounds.
Although it is apparent from Weinzierl's comments that this is the kind of game his side will raise their performance level for - and will be seen as a huge opportunity for them.
Undoubtedly, Liverpool will be favourites against a side that is currently averaging a point a game after 16 matches in the Bundesliga, and are sitting in 13th place.
For Augsburg, they had a fantastic season in the division last term by finishing fifth ahead of both Schalke and Dortmund but were 12 points off the Champions League places ahead of them, but it seems to be regarded as a big achievement for the club.
Liverpool should qualify over the two legs, but they may be in for a stern test with a side full of players determined to record an historic victory.
