Wright said: “At the moment, I’m not seeing too many players [in the Villa squad] that can be galvanised to the point that they can get out of it [relegation]. They are not scoring enough goals, they’re not creating enough chances, and you just feel there is no confidence in them. You just look at it, and ask: ‘what is the manager going to do to get out of it?’”
Wright has admitted that he cannot see any of these current Villa players having it in them to get galvanised to secure survival in the top flight, considering how they have performed this season.
Villa enter games looking terrified that they are going to lose again, and as soon as they concede a goal, there is almost no chance that they will score themselves - let alone fight back to pick up a victory.
Villa need a positive mentality if they are to have any chance of picking up three points for the rest of the campaign, and potentially avoiding relegation, but right now it is hard to see where that mentality will come from.
No players look up for the fight, and Remi Garde doesn’t appear to be the kind of man who can vent at his team to the level where they start to rally around him and perform well.
Villa’s squad is lacking in quality and passion, and with those two key traits absent, relegation to the Championship looks extremely likely this season.
