Barcelona chief says they will beat Arsenal, glad they avoided PSG and Juventus

Barcelona are confident of coming out on top in a tough clash against Arsenal.

Arsenal landed the tie they did not want against Barcelona - but the La Liga side did not feel the same way.

While they could have drawn Belgian surprise package Gent, Barcelona felt Arsenal was far from the worst draw they could have landed.

Speaking to Catalan newspaper Sport, Barcelona technical director Robert Fernandez explained the club's feelings about the draw.

He said: "Arsenal has much [the same] level as the other teams that had qualified for this round. They are difficult opponents but, luckily, some of them we will not see. The truth is that Juventus and PSG were two rivals who we did not want to find.

"I think it will be an attractive tie for people. It's a team who like the ball and I think we will have fun. It is an open, difficult tie, but I am confident that we will win."

Barcelona feel they have an opportunity to progress, and know all about Arsenal having faced Arsene Wenger's sides twice in recent seasons.

They narrowly beat Juventus in last year's final, while were also pushed hard by PSG a couple of years earlier.

Barcelona will also get Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal to add to their squad in January, having signed the pair from Atletico Madrid and Sevilla in the summer, but been unable to play them due to their transfer embargo meaning they could not be registered.

The best are about to get better, and Arsenal have a tall order on their hands to progress.
