He may not have managed it, but the winger put in a great performance and he fully deserved his first West Ham start just seven days later against Stoke City.
Again the Hammers drew 0-0, but the former Nottingham Forest player was impressive throughout his 83-minute performance and on this evidence he looks set for a prolonged run in Slaven Bilic’s starting line-up.
Antonio was a star in the Championship last season, ending the previous campaign with 15 goals and 14 assists, and while he is yet to get off the mark for West Ham it is surely only a matter of time.
With Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet both currently out injured, the responsibility rests on the shoulders of the likes of Antonio to replicate his best form and ensure West Ham’s great start is not forgotten come 2016.
