Tottenham round-up: Newcastle to bid £8m for Townsend; Arsenal to rival Spurs for Batshuayi

White Hart Lane

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Another week, another rumour relating to Andros Townsend, with the Daily Mail reporting that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley will sanction an £8million bid for the England international next month.

Townsend has been out of favour at Spurs this season and has recently been turning out for the club’s under-21s, but he returned to first-team training last week and it will be interesting to see what January has in store for him.

The latest report suggests Newcastle are keen to beat Premier League rivals Sunderland and Aston Villa to Townsend’s signature.

In other news, the Sunday Telegraph reports that Arsenal are equally keen to beat Tottenham to the signature of Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Belgian international is one of the most exciting goal-scorers in Europe right now and it is being claimed that Arsenal want to make him their latest signing when the January transfer window opens in just a few short weeks.

If Tottenham can get in ahead of them it would be a brilliant coup, but it would also raise questions as to how Spurs would continue to utilise their current system with Harry Kane playing as a lone striker.
