Sunderland lost 1-0 to Watford on Saturday but what did Black Cats fans make of the midfielder's contribution?
Sunderland could not secure the three points that would have lifted them out of the bottom three on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Watford at the Stadium of Light.
An early goal from Hornets striker Odion Ighalo was all it took to condemn the Black Cats to their second successive defeat following their 3-1 setback against Arsenal a week earlier.
While it was an ultimately disappointing day for Sunderland there were reasons to be optimistic, not least the performance of first-half substitute Jack Rodwell.
The 24-year-old came off the bench in the 19th minute to replace loanee DeAndre Yedlin and the former Everton player looked good.
The 71 minutes Rodwell managed on Saturday was the most he had played in a single match since late August and it will be interesting to see if Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce now uses him from the start over the Christmas and New Year period.
After the match we took to Twitter to see what Sunderland fans thought of Rodwell’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
@Richp_8 I'd actually give it to Rodwell.we looked far better when he came on— Ady Barkess (@Adysund) December 12, 2015
@J_De_Cruz Rodwell should be starting at moment (injuries a factor though) but not good enough long term. Still need that playmaker don't we— Brentton Gaydon (@BrentSaysHurl) December 12, 2015
Tin hat at the ready but,,,,,, I thought Rodwell did ok today— Ady Barkess (@Adysund) December 12, 2015
@SAFCBear I still think there's a player in Rodwell somewhere— Dan (@Sunderland1879) December 12, 2015
Fair to play Rodwell though, he wanted it and wanted to make a difference. There's definitely a player in there. Hope he grows in confidence— Jamie De Cruz (@J_De_Cruz) December 12, 2015
