The midfielder has been highly impressive for Leicester City this season.
He has formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the midfield alongside Danny Drinkwater, with those two providing the backbone for the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez to flourish.
It has been his defensive work that has garnered the most attention though, and Thompson has likened him to legendary midfielder Claude Makelele, only quicker.
“This guy, the pace he’s got, he’s like a quicker Makelele,” he told Sky Sports.
“He gets himself around the pitch far quicker. As the season has worn on, he’s worn into this side and taken on more responsibility.”
“Now he’s expressing himself, he’s been a terrific signing for them.”
Given the performances he has put in so far, there is no denying that Kante has been one of the signings of the summer transfer window, at a bargain price tag.
Of such quality have his performances been, very little has been made of the fact that they lost Esteban Cambiasso, no mean feat given how well the Argentine performed last season.
If he continues performing how he has been then bigger sides will surely be interested, as will be the case with several other Foxes stars this year.
