Report suggests Chievo will battle city rivals Verona for Sunderland outcast Vito Mannone

The Italian rivals are both keen on the player.

This week has seen Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone linked with an exit from the club.

Tutto Mercato Web are reporting that Serie A side Hellas Verona are keen on signing the 27-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season, with a view to making the move permanent in the summer of 2016.

Now it looks like a city rivalry could brew over his signature.

Hellas Verona's biggest rivals Chievo are now also said to be keen.

Sport Italia claims that Chievo are keeping tabs on the player ahead of a potential January move.

Mannone joined Sunderland in 2013 and was initially the club's first-choice goalkeeping option. However, a string of poor performances saw him dropped for Costel Pantilimon and he has not featured for the Sunderland first-team since the 4-1 League Cup defeat against Manchester City in September.

Sunderland have England Under-21 international Jordan Pickford waiting in the wings out on loan at Preston to be the club's second choice and Mannone's time on Wearside appears to be up, with Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce talking up the talented Englishman this week.

Bournemouth have also been linked with the former Arsenal youngster.
