Pochettino explains whether Newcastle defeat will affect Tottenham's transfer plans

The Tottenham head coach has been discussing his squad after a 2-1 loss to Newcastle.

Mauricio Pochettino says he is happy with his squad and has suggested Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 loss to Newcastle United won't affect the north London club's January transfer plans, according to BBC Football.

Indeed, Tottenham lost to Newcastle thanks to a late Hugo Lloris error, thereby ending their unbeaten league run - one that had lasted since the first day of the campaign.

But the Argentine refused to get too discouraged by the defeat.

Pochettino told the BBC: "This defeat does not change my feeling - I am happy with the squad. You always look at options but I am very happy with the squad I have."

What is it with Newcastle these days? Against any side that isn't supposed to be a top-four contender, they capitulate within minutes.

Against Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham, however, the Magpies actually try - and, against the latter two, actually win.

Pochettino is wise not to read too much into only Spurs' second Premier League defeat of the season. But it will hopefully provide a reality check for those discussing Tottenham and the title.

Unfortunately for Spurs fans, Arsenal look the form side in the title race right now. That said, they have often been in that position and still come out trophyless in the past...
