Angry United fans react on Twitter to Paddy McNair's performance v Bournemouth

United fans were not pleased with the 20-year-old on Saturday evening...

Rewind 12 months and Paddy McNair was seen by many as a young hero who had ably stepped in to save Manchester United during their time of need at the back.

Indeed, as Louis van Gaal will remember too well, United were suffering from a serious injury crisis in defence back then and McNair's first senior appearances at Old Trafford did much to encourage supporters during a tough time.

A year later, though, and another injury crisis at United has ended up showing McNair in a different light. According to fans anyway.

After Manchester United's 2-1 loss to Bournemouth on Saturday evening, the 20-year-old was hardly receiving rave reviews. There were many at fault as United crashed to their second defeat in a row in all competitions, reacting to their Champions League exit in the worst possible fashion.

But McNair bore a significant brunt of the criticism, with plenty frustrated that the youngster was even picked by Van Gaal in the first place.

Where next for the out-of-form Old Trafford outfit? And can they still salvage a good season under Van Gaal? Here's how Manchester United fans reacted on Twitter to McNair's display against Bournemouth:
