Former Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United defender Stuart Pearce said on BBC Radio 5 live on Saturday afternoon that Everton’s John Stones reminds him of Alan Hansen.
Pearce made the comment during Saturday afternoon’s Premier League game between Norwich City and Everton at Carrow Road.
"When John Stones has the ball at the feet, he is like a matador, he is so difficult to shake off it,” said the Englishman.
“He is impressive for a player of his young age, and I think he looks like a young Alan Hansen from my era. He's a Rolls-Royce of a player.”
It is a big comparison from Pearce, as Hansen is one of the greatest players in Liverpool history.
The former Scotland international central defender was on the books of the Merseyside outfit from 1977 to 1991.
Hansen won the Football League First Division title eight times, the FA Cup twice, the League Cup on four occasions and the European Cup three times with Liverpool.
Stones has a long way to go before coming close to competing with that, but he is certainly one of the best young players in the Premier League at the moment.
The Everton centre-back is comfortable on the ball, makes timely tackles and reads the game well.
