Le Tissier backs Everton for Champions League challenge

Everton Goodison

The Blues drew 1-1 with Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Matt Le Tissier has backed Everton to push for a Champions League place this season.

The Blues are eyeing a place in the top four this season, with the league very much open given Chelsea’s fall from prominence.

They are currently 6th in the table with 23 points to their name, meaning they are six points away from Manchester United and Manchester City in 3rd and 4th.

There are a number sides all within touching distance of those top four places in the top ten however, but Le Tissier believes they can compete come the end of the season.

“The way they’ve played the last few weeks, you’d have to say yeah [they can finish fourth],” he told Sky Sports.

“The league is wide open this year. You can look all the way down to twelfth; all those teams will think they’ve got a small chance of Champions League football.”

“Everton, the way they’re going, I think they’ll be decent priced to make the top four.”

If Everton are to challenge for a top four place this season, key to that will be turning their draws into wins.

Roberto Martinez’s side have the most draws in the division this season so far, with the 1-1 against Norwich on Saturday making it eight in total.

That is not good enough for a side looking to compete at the top of the table, with the draws against the likes of Bournemouth and Norwich City the ones that will hurt their chances the most.
