Former Manchester City and Everton defender Andy Hinchcliffe said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (December 11) that both Newcastle United and Sunderland will escape the drop to the Championship at the end of the season.
Both Newcastle and Sunderland have been disappointing in the Premier League so far this campaign and are in real danger of getting relegated to the second tier of English football.
Bournemouth, Norwich City and Swansea City are 17th, 16th and 15th with 13, 13 and 14 points respectively, while Aston Villa currently find themselves at the foot of the Premier League table with just six points from 15 league games.
"I look at the bottom six in the Premier League now," said Hinchcliffe on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (December 11). "I think the three relegated sides will clearly come from those bottom six teams.
"I think Swansea are in the mix as well. Depending what manager they get, they might be able to get themselves out of it.
"Bournemouth, Villa of course, Newcastle and Sunderland. I think Newcastle and Sunderland will be okay."
Newcastle will return to Premier League action on Sunday evening when they take on Tottenham Hotspur away from home at White Hart Lane in North London. Meanwhile, Sunderland will face Watford at the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon.
