Ian Holloway muses on possibility Wolverhampton Wanderers are preparing to sell Benik Afobe

Benik Afobe

The Sky Sports pundit is wondering whether Kenny Jackett is ready to move the player on.

Wolverhampton Wanderers took on Nottingham Forest in the Championship yesterday in a game that finished 1-1 at Molineux.

Dexter Blackstock's late equaliser for Forest cancelled out Ethan Ebanks-Landell's earlier opener to see the shares spoiled.

It was a game between two sides who have had topsy-turvy seasons so far - leaving them both in mid-table and dreaming of the play-offs.

Wolves have struggled to carry on where they left off last season and the form of Benik Afobe has not met the expectations of last term.

With that in mind he was dropped for the game with Forest last night, which had Sky Sports pundit and former Blackpool manager Ian Holloway perplexed.

He wrote in his Sky Sports blog today:

"It's a bit of a head scratcher that Benik Afobe was only on the bench. Is his head in the right place? Is it a loss of form? Is he looking to move? Maybe Kenny is looking to move him on in order to free up some money?

"It's a bit of a strange situation. I'm just trying to read between the lines, but normally when a manager drops his top scorer, it's to see whether they can do without him."

The former Arsenal talent scored 32 goals in 51 appearances for Wolves and MK Dons last term. His form even saw him linked with a massive money move to the Premier League.

This term he has just the eight goals in 22 appearances and just one in his last nine appearances.

But his recent form has certainly not warranted a start and it will be interesting to see if interest remains in the player come January. If that interest is still present, Wolves might decide to cash in on this occasion.
