Timothy Fosu-Mensah congratulates Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on Twitter for Wolfsburg appearance

Old Trafford 3

The teenager put in a good performance when he came on in the doomed fixture.

Manchester United crashed out of the Champions League at the Group Stage on Tuesday night, after falling to defeat at VfL Wolfsburg.

The 3-2 defeat to the Bundesliga side at the Volkswagen Arena saw United dumped out and into the relative ignominy of the Europa League and Thursday night football.

One of the very few positives to take from the game was the performance of youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

United have a long list of injuries and that meant the likes of Guillermo Varela starting and Nick Powell coming on.

When Matteo Darmian, who was playing at left-back, came off it was Borthwick-Jackson who was asked to deputise.

The 18-year-old defender performed well and must have caught the eye of Louis van Gaal. One Manchester United team-mate was certainly impressed.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah is just 17-years-old and the talented Dutchman is expected to have a big future at the club.

But he was just happy to see his team-mate make an appearance on Tuesday.

Borthwick-Jackson may be called upon a lot more for the remainder of the season considering the injury problems LvG currently has at the back.

If his performance against Wolfsburg was anything to go by then he should be able to handle himself.
