Former Liverpool winger Steve McManaman said on the UEFA Europa League Highlights show on BT Sport Europe on Thursday night that Tottenham Hotspur can go all the way in the Europa League this season.
McManaman, who started his career at Liverpool before moving to Real Madrid and then Manchester City, made the comments following Tottenham’s 4-1 victory over AS Monaco at White Hart Lane on Thursday evening.
The win in North London means that Spurs finish as Group J winners with 13 points from six matches, three points clear of second-place Anderlecht.
“I think they are playing well and are full of confidence,” said McManaman on the UEFA Europa League Highlights show on BT Sport Europe on Thursday night.
“Tottenham, if they keep playing their strongest sides, you would always fancy them over two legs against anybody,” added McManaman.
Spurs have a good squad, and they should be looking to go as far as possible in the Europa League this campaign.
A top-four finish in the Premier League is Tottenham’s main objective this season, but winning the Europa League will see them clinch a place in the 2016-17 Champions League campaign.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side will return to Premier League action on Sunday evening when they take on Newcastle United at White Hart Lane.
