Watford, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are all reportedly interested in signing Cheikh M'Bengue of Stade Rennais, RMC Sport reports.
The French media outlet believes that the 27-year-old Senegalese left-back has been earning admiring glances from England, as well as Germany and Turkey, due to his solid form in Ligue 1 over the past few years.
His future is currently in doubt with Rennais, as his contract expires at the end of this season, and the French outfit are considering capitalising on his contract situation to make a profit on him in January, rather than lose him for free at the end of the campaign.
So far, the report claims that Watford, Newcastle and Middlesbrough have all been making concrete approaches for M’Bengue, although the trio are also said to be open to bringing him in on a free next summer if he is not sold next month.
A Senegalese international, 27-year-old M’Bengue has spent his entire career in France. He started playing with Toulouse, making 158 appearances before switching to Rennes in 2013. He has since played 71 times for the club, with eight appearances to his name this term.
His first appearance for Senegal came in 2011, and he has totalled 27 caps for his nation since then.
With the interest in him ahead of the January window, it appears as if the next stage of M’Bengue's career will be set in English football instead of France.
