Report: Celtic to make £1.5m if Victor Wanyama leaves Southampton for Arsenal

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal in the January transfer window.

Celtic are set to earn £1.5 million if Victor Wanyama leaves Southampton for Arsenal in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Record.

It has been reported by the Scottish newspaper that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has made the former Celtic defensive midfielder his number one January transfer target.

The Gunners will reportedly offer more than £15m for the Kenya international, and the Bhoys will bag 10% as part of a sell-on clause.

This, according to The Daily Record, means that Celtic will get to make at least £1.5m from the deal involving Wanyama, who was on the books of the Scottish Premiership giants from 2011 to 2013.

Good money

This money will be important for Celtic in the summer transfer window when they will likely sign players.

The Bhoys cannot afford to recruit big-name players and pay big money, but the £1.5m they will reportedly get from Wanyama’s move to Arsenal will certainly help them.

Celtic have a squad good enough to win the Scottish Premiership title, but failures in Europe over the past two campaigns suggest that they do need to recruit players who can enable them to qualify for the Champions League group stage next season.
