Speaking to the official Rangers YouTube channel, Mark Warburton has been discussing January transfer plans, having been asked if he wants to sign any players from the Scottish Premiership.
When asked if he wants to sign a player from the Premiership, Warburton said: “If we think we can secure a player with quality we don’t currently possess, then we will move. If it’s possible to do a deal, then we will move. Rangers will conduct their business this way. We have to look at every available market where we can get a player who adds value to our current squad.”
Warburton has neither confirmed not denied his plans to sign Premiership players in January, but he has admitted that he only wants to bring players to Ibrox if they improve his current squad.
Considering that Rangers have the best team in the Scottish Championship, the only way Warburton can realistically improve his team is to bring in players from the league above.
However, Rangers are in the division below, and it could be hard for him to convince any targets to swap the top flight for the Championship, whilst promotion is still not guaranteed.
Rangers are still a big draw in Scottish football, and Warburton has proven his managment skills, but that still doesnt mean he will be able to convince any players to swap Premiership football for the chance to turn out at Ibrox.
Warburton wants to do business in January, but until top flight football is secured once again, he wills struggle to raid the Premiership for any players to bring to Rangers.
