West Ham will take on Stoke at the Boleyn Ground in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
Shawcross is likely to start in central defence for the Potters, and Owen believes that he will be key in deciding the outcome of the encounter.
“The Stadium of Light is far more likely to see goals than Upton Park where both West Ham and Stoke are expected to cancel each other out in a cagey PL fixture in East London,” the former Liverpool star has written on Betvictor.com.
“Potters captain Ryan Shawcross has been pivotal to Stoke’s early season form with Mark Hughes’ side not conceding in 407 minutes of football with Shawcross marshalling the defence.
“He should orchestrate proceedings against the Hammers and whilst the goalless draw should out-run its price at 15/2, the 6/4 about both sides going in at the break without conceding looks far too big.”
Shawcross, who has been on the books of Stoke since 2008, has been one of the best players for Mark Hughes’s side in recent weeks.
In five Premier League appearances for the Potters so far this campaign, the 28-year-old central defender has a pass accuracy of 67%, and has won 11 headers and four tackles.
Stoke are 11th in the Premier League table at the moment with 22 points from 15 matches, while West Ham are a point ahead in seventh.
