Liverpool rounded off their Europa League group stage fixtures with a drab 0-0 draw against Swiss side Sion.
With the Reds already qualified, and Sion only needing a draw to progress to the knockout stages, it was always going to be a damp squib, and the result lived up to the expectations.
There were no real chances of note, and Jurgen Klopp will be pleased that he managed to field a fairly changed line up and get to the end of the tie with no injuries. There was a starting appearance for Jordan Henderson in midfield following his return from injury, whilst Kolo Toure got a start in the heart of the defence.
However, the boldest inclusion was that of Brad Smith, the Australian 21-year-old left-back who is starting to have an impact in the first-team, and made his full debut v Sion.
He has made three appearances in total for the Reds now, with two of them coming since the appointment of Klopp as head coach.
He put in a solid performance, winning four tackles and completing five clearances, whilst also having a positive impact in the attacking third; he completed two dribbles and played one key pass.
It was a performance which showed the youngster’s potential, and following the game, Liverpool fans took to Twitter to express their feelings on Smith’s performance.
Will be interesting to see if Smith starts or not! Was excellent yesterday #LFC— Tarandeep Singh (@TD_LFC) December 11, 2015
Great to see Brad Smith start. We'll need him for the festive and New Years period. #LFC— Matthew Moussa (@MattMoussa7) December 11, 2015
Firmino had a shocker of a game. So did Henderson. Others average at best. Good debut start for Smith #LFC— Man of Justice (@SuperGops) December 11, 2015
Brad Smith played well and now is another option for Klopp at left back #LFC— TheTipMyster (@TheTipMyster) December 10, 2015
