Jordan Veretout has praised Jores Okore on Aston Villa’s official website, after seeing the defender in action for the first time last weekend.
Okore made his first appearance of the season in Villa’s 1-1 draw against Southampton, after making his return from injury.
And Veretout was impressed by the defender’s display, as he looked very sharp despite a lengthy absence.
“Jores is a really good player,” Veretout said.
"The last game he played, he played very well - especially when you consider he's been out for a long period of time through injury.
"For his first game back, I was very happy for him.
"He offers great competition at the back. That is good and helps progress.
"It means no-one rests on their laurels. Competition is good for the whole team."
Villa’s defensive options have increased considerably now that Okore has returned, and he should help to tighten up their backline.
The Danish defender possesses great pace and power, and Remi Garde will pleased to have him fit again.
Villa have struggled to keep clean sheets so far this campaign, and that has been one of their downfalls.
The Claret and Blues have let 28 goals in their 15 matches this season, but they will hope Okore’s return helps them in this respect.
If Villa can start shutting out goals, it should aid them as they look close the seven-point gap which currently separates them from safety.
