The 21-year-old is already one of the most exciting talents in the Premier League.
It was Premier League champions Chelsea who attempted to take the 21-year-old away from Goodison Park last summer, with the Independent reporting that the Blues' final bid was worth £38m. And anticipating that Jose Mourinho will once again look to sign the England international, the Red Devils are reportedly willing to break the bank to get their man.
The Independent suggests that United fancy their chances of beating Chelsea in the race for his signature, because of the Stamford Bridge outfit's current position in the top flight, which, after a surprise defeat to Bournemouth, shows few signs of improving dramatically.
Although Stones is undoubtedly one of the most promising talents in the Premier League, with his excellent defensive qualities matched by his exceptional composure on the ball, United should surely be looking at strengthening other areas of their squad.
Defensively this season, Louis van Gaal's men have been fantastic - conceding just 10 times, which is the fewest in the division. However, going forward, they are much weaker due to a lack of options on both the wing, and up front.
Nevertheless, if van Gaal has plenty of financial resources to play with in the summer, then around £50m for a 21-year-old clearly destined for great things is surely a decent move.
