Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Spanish international attacker Nolito, report newspaper Espiritu Deportivo.
It is alleged that over the past week Spurs have intensified contacts with Celta Vigo and are preparing an offer of £8.5 million.
Nolito, 29, is enjoying a standout year in La Liga, scoring eight goals in 14 games, also providing five assists.
He has also established himself in the Spain international squad ahead of Euro 2016, and has helped them Celta Vigo to ninth in the table.
Tottenham's rivals Arsenal have also been linked this week, by Spanish newspaper Sport.
Comments from Spanish football expert Guillem Balague however suggest both North London clubs will be disappointed, as the player has his heart set on Barcelona instead.
Arsenal not interested at all in Nolito. Not by chance the stories come out in the Catalan press (he wants to go to FCB).— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) December 8, 2015
Nolito previously played for Barcelona's B team in his younger days, and getting the chance to play alongside Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba could help his international ambitions, although it is hard to see where he fits in with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar up front.
Balague though in October suggested finances could make a deal difficult for Barcelona, telling SkySports: "Luis Enrique wants Nolito and Nolito wants to go to Barcelona.
"But the expenditure is too big for the club - that is what Luis Enrique has been told - so they are also looking for a 'Larsson' type of striker."
There is still plenty of talking to be done ahead of the transfer window, and if Tottenham's interest is serious then it complicates matters, but Barcelona are going to be tough to compete with if they get the funds together to sanction a move.
