The midfielder will be hoping for minutes against Monaco tonight.
But they are facing a Monaco team who need a result. They are fighting with Belgian side Anderlecht for second spot in the group, with the Brussels side taking on Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag in the groups other tie tonight.
Spurs are expected to rest players for the game tonight which will give some fringe members of the Spurs team a chance to shine in the first-team.
One of those players in question is Tom Carroll.
The midfielder has featured nine times for the club this season but mainly as a substitute or in the European competition.
The 23-year-old has been speaking to the club's official website about the game this week and is hopeful of a positive result:
“They’re a good side and they’re a team you’d expect to see in the Champions League.
“We know about the quality they’ve got so they’re going to be a dangerous side, but it should be a good test for us.
“I remember from the away game that they had a lot of pace, some sharp wingers and they’ll obviously be going all-out for the win but for us it doesn’t matter if we’re through already or not – whoever we play we’re determined to win and that’s what we’ll be trying to do on Thursday.”
Carroll will be hoping to push on and impress in the game with first-team opportunities hard to come by at Spurs, especially in the midfield area.
Spurs have the likes of Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb sweating over first-team football in the heart of the Tottenham team whilst Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli thrive.
Carroll must take his opportunities in games like this if he is to remain at Spurs in the long-term - especially with his current deal expiring next summer.
