Arsenal secured a surprising 3-0 victory over Olympiacos on Wednesday.
A hat-trick from much criticised Frenchman Olivier Giroud picked up all the three points, ensuring that the North London club won by more than the two clear goals needed to finish second in Group F.
They would have preferred first place, to miss out on the challenging opponents that they will face in the next round, but considering their situation heading into the game this is one of the best results in Arsenal’s recent memory.
Giroud was the key figure in the game, with his first ever Arsenal hat-trick securing the win, but high praise should also go to Joel Campbell and Mesut Ozil, whose creative play was behind everything good that the Gunners did.
At the end of the game, a selection of Arsenal’s players sent messages on social media platform Twitter, with Theo Walcott sharing a photo with hat-trick hero Giroud.
Mathieu Flamini, who completed the full 90 minutes, also sent a photo on the journey back to England, along with Ozil and his playmaking partner Campbell.
