Steve McClaren provides fitness update on Rolando Aarons and two other Newcastle players

Newcastle United are set to welcome a number of players back into their first team.

Steve McClaren has confirmed that Rolando Aarons is close to making his Newcastle United return at his press conference this afternoon.

Aarons has missed much of the season so far with injury, but it seems that he could be back in training in the near future.

The good news on the injury front did not stop there for Newcastle either, as both Cheick Tiote and Jamaal Lascelles are expected to be back in the next few days.

Aarons has shown plenty of class during his fleeting appearances for Newcastle’s first team, but his injury problems have been worrying.

The young winger has struggled to stay off the treatment table ever since breaking into the Magpies’ first team back at the start of the 2014 campaign.

His return will bolster McClaren’s attacking options, though.

Tiote’s comeback will also be key for Newcastle, as he could come straight back into their midfield.

Lascelles, meanwhile, is likely to continue to play a covering role – but he does give McClaren more options to choose from at centre-back.
