Taking a closer look at the Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United players in Europe's elite competition.

Ángel Di María v Memphis Depay: Head to Head: Comparing the PSG and Manchester United stars: 20151210

When Manchester United signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid for a British record fee of £59.7million it seemed Old Trafford had a superstar to get the fans off their seats once more.

But despite impressing in his first few matches at the club the Argentine international’s form soon tailed off and he was later dropped by manager Louis van Gaal.

Just a year on, Di Maria was sold to Paris Saint-Germain and United replaced him with PSV Eindhoven hot-shot Memphis Depay, so how do the two players compare in the Champions League this season?

Depay looked like taking the competition by storm when he scored an excellent brace in the qualifying round against Club Brugge, but he only managed one strike in the group stage and that against his old club in a 2-1 defeat.

In contrast Di Maria scored three goals as PSG finished second in Group A, three points behind his former club Real but 10 clear of third-placed Shakhtar Donetsk.

Some United fans feel Di Maria never got a fair crack of the whip at Old Trafford and that his attacking talents were nullified by van Gaal’s tactics, while most feel Depay will come good in time.

But looking solely at the six group matches this season, Di Maria is way ahead of the Dutch international in some key areas, including passing accuracy, goals, key passes, dribbles and duels one.

The United youngster has a slightly better shooting accuracy while he has been dispossessed fewer times, but Depay needs to show more at the club, especially in the absence of a prolific goal-scorer right now.
