Could Arsenal bring an exciting Spanish forward to the Emirates Stadium?
The 27-year-old is predominantly a secondary striker although he can also operate as a sole front-man or on the left wing, and that versatility may be one of the reasons Arsenal are said to be interested.
The Gunners reportedly sent scouts to watch Lucas in action against Sevilla last weekend, a match in which he scored to take his tally for the season to 12 goals in just 16 appearances. But while they may be interested a move as early as January seems highly unlikely as he has already played for two clubs this season and is a key part of Deportivo's starting line-up.
Lucas was on loan at Deportivo last season and joined them permanently in the summer but in between he played for his former club PAOK in the Champions League qualifying stage at the start of the current campaign.
Arsenal have plenty of goal-scoring options already on their books but Lucas is a versatile and exciting player who has proved prolific in La Liga, and with five goals in his last five matches, it is no surprise Wenger has reportedly given the go ahead for his side to open talks over a potential move further down the line.
