McCay said: “I am speaking to several clubs who are ready to make an offer for Lamine in January.”
The report claims that Sunderland have a concrete interest in signing Kone in January, which comes one month after the news broke that the Black Cats were looking at him.
ESPN reported last month that Sunderland have been tracking the centre-back, along with Aston Villa and West Ham, with plans to make an approach for him in January.
Now that his agent has confirmed that he has been in talks with various clubs, it would not be a surprise to see the Black Cats make a formal approach for Kone when the transfer window opens in January.
Who is Lamine Kone?
Kone, 27, is a centre-back who has spent his entire playing career in France. After staring at Chateauroux, where he made 78 appearances, Kone moved to Lorient in 2010, and has since played 129 times in all competitions.
He has established himself as a solid and dependable centre-back, and although he was a French Under-20 international in his youth - playing eight games - he has taken up the offer to play for Ivory Coast’s senior team, making his debut in 2014.
Renowned for his strength and positioning skills, Kone has played 14 league games this season. Per game, he has averaged 0.8 tackles, 2.4 interceptions and six clearances, and holds a respectable 81% passing completion rate.
