Wantaway 22-year-old Colombian sensation Juan Quintero the perfect Payet replacement for West Ham

Why a West Ham move for Porto's Juan Quintero would be an ideal solution for club and player.

West Ham hope to have Dmitri Payet back fully fit in the new year, but can they afford to gamble on the Frenchman recovering quickly, and not getting injured again?

After the way the Hammers trailed off in the second half of last season they should not take the chance, and it is why they need to look to the transfer market.

There are few better available options than FC Porto winger Juan Quintero, who has been linked away from the club this week.

The 22-year-old is a Colombian international, who was loaned to Rennes earlier this season.

His time in France has not been as successful as he would have hoped, and Goal France reported this week that he wants to leave in January, with several clubs already expressing an interest.

Portuguese newspaper Record cite L'Equipe, noting Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad as one of those registering an interest.

Quintero was a previous star of the under-20 World Cup, scoring seven times in 11 games for his country, clinching a move from Italian side Pescara to Porto, but he has not held down a regular place.

A similar story of frustration was experienced by Manuel Lanzini, before the Hammers took a gamble on him in the summer, with the move an undoubted success.

Porto put a clause of £14 million in the loan deal to Rennes making him available to buy, but West Ham would be better off seeking to negotiate a loan until the end of the season if the player is successful in cancelling his loan deal.

Premier League sides are limited to two domestic loans but can bring in more from abroad, meaning there are no rules which would prevent the Hammers from signing Quintero if a deal could be struck.

Quintero can play in a similar central position to Lanzini, or out wide like Payet, and could be a strong solution to strengthening the side over the rest of the campaign.
