Steve Evans says only consistency is letting Leeds United down

Leeds United have recorded a strange set of results this season.

Leeds have struggled this season, and Steve Evans has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that only consistency has been letting the Whites down this term.

Evans said: “What’s letting us down is our consistency. If you look at it, the squad here have beaten Hull, Derby County and Cardiff City. They drew with Burnley and were pretty close to beating them. Our problem is that we get a couple of good results against Cardiff and Huddersfield and then we go and lose to bottom-of-the-league (Rotherham). Then we don’t play at all well at Queens Park Rangers.”

Evans has highlighted the fact that Leeds have performed well against some of the top teams in the Championship table, but then lost to the teams below them in the league.

Last weekend, they defeated Hull City, which was impressive enough in itself. However, they have also beaten Derby and Cardiff this term, and together they are three sides in the top six.

However, they have also lost to Rotherham, who sit second bottom in the table, and this lack of consistent results against teams all throughout the division means that Leeds have struggled overall this term.

They currently sit in 17th place in the league, only six points off the relegation places. Yet their impressive results agains the top teams have kept them within touching distance of the play-offs, and Evans’ side sit only seven points off Cardiff in sixth place.

If Leeds could start to defeat teams across all levels of the division, and who are packed with differing quality levels, they would become a much more fearsome unit in the Championship.

Considering how poor Leeds have been at times this term, it is amazing that the Whites remain in contention for the play-offs, and now that Evans has identified the lack of consistency in his team, he now needs to discover a way of solving the problem.
