De Jong has been struggling at Milan this season, failing to establish himself in Sinisa Mihajlovic’s first-team despite starting the campaign as captain. He started four of the first six Sere A fixtures, but has not made an appearance since September 27, and the report claims he is looking to leave in January.
Werder Bremen and Schalke have recently been eyeing him up, but it has now been claimed that Leicester have entered the race for him, with Claudio Ranieri wanting to add some more Premier League experience to his squad.
With the Foxes currently flying high in the Premier League, Ranieri wants to ensure his team have the best chance of keeping up a European challenge, and he believes that De Jong would be the best option considering his experience with Manchester City.
De Jong, 31, won the FA Cup, Premier League and Community Shield during his four year stay at City, and it is expected that the midfielder would not be against a return to England in January.
De Jong has a contract at the San Siro until the summer of 2018, but in his current situation, he could be willing to force through a transfer for a lower fee just to get back to playing consistent football with the Foxes.
