Report: Bologna start negotiations to sign Sunderland's Jordi Gomez

Bologna want to sign Jordi Gomez from Sunderland.

Bologna are in talks to sign Jordi Gomez from Sunderland, report Tuttomercatoweb.

Gomez has played five Premier League games for the Black Cats this season, coming off the bench late on against West Ham.

Tuttomercatoweb report Serie A side Bologna have begun negotiating for Gomez, but does not specify whether talks are taking place between the clubs, or the player and his agents.

The report does state that Bologna are optimistic a deal can be done for the former Wigan Athletic midfielder.

Bologna already have one Sunderland player at the club, with Emanuele Giaccherini on a season long loan.

Last season Gomez played 29 times for Sunderland, scoring four goals and providing two assists.

The 30-year-old signed for Sunderland in the summer of 2014, staying a season at Wigan after they were relegated and scoring 11 goals in the Championship.

He is a former Spain youth international, beginning his career in Barcelona's youth academy, and was brought to England by Roberto Martinez.
