Paul Dummett delighted to prove Newcastle United's critics wrong

Newcastle United beat Liverpool 2-0 at St. James' Park at the weekend.

Paul Dummett has told the Chronicle that he was glad Newcastle United were able to hit back at their critics by beating Liverpool.

Newcastle won 2-0 against the Reds in their latest outing, and they put in a highly impressive performance in the match.

The Magpies were good value for the three points, and Dummett felt that their display proved that every player is committed to getting Newcastle out of their current situation.

“We’ve had a lot of criticism over the last two weeks - and especially the last week, after the Palace game,” he said.

“We’ve took a lot; the team, the manager, the whole club, so it’s nice for us to go out there and show that we do care.”

Newcastle’s players have had a tendency to collapse in matches this season, leaving supporters querying whether they did care about the club’s fortunes.

Heavy recent defeats to Crystal Palace and Leicester City, had Newcastle’s supporters frustrated – but some of the gloom has been lifted after their win over Liverpool.

Newcastle took the lead against Jurgen Klopp’s side when Martin Skrtel deflected a Georginio Wijnaldum strike into his own net.

Wijnaldum then completed the triumph late on, to lift Newcastle up to 18th place in the Premier League table.

The Magpies’ next match comes against Tottenham Hotspur, and if they are able to avoid defeat at White Hart Lane, they could move out of the relegation zone.
