Swansea City are now looking for a new manager after they parted company with the 36-year-old.
That was worrying form, with the Swans dropping to 15th in the table as a result, just one point clear of the relegation zone, but it was a decision that many have reacted to with shock given just how well Monk did previously…and how much promise he has as a manager overall.
While Swansea have struggled in recent times they showed earlier in the campaign exactly what they are capable of, going undefeated in September, beating Manchester United and Newcastle United and taking a point away to Chelsea.
More recently things have taken a dip but Monk was building a very promising team at the Liberty Stadium and he deserved more time to see that through.
Instead he has gone, and after the news broke we took to Twitter to see what football fans thought, with a selection of their reactions brought together below:
Swansea sacking gary monk after all he's done for the club as player&manager is ridiculous— Josh (@J0shSummerfield) December 9, 2015
Swansea are stupid for sacking Gary Monk. Legend of the club, and such a good manager. One bad patch of form and they get rid of him.. #wow— Sam Johnson (@samjohnson382) December 9, 2015
I'm in the minority but I think sacking Monk is right decision. Talented coach but Swansea showing no signs of improvement. High stakes.— Mat Evans (@Matharati) December 9, 2015
Harsh on Monk but saw it coming. Something clearly not right behind the scenes. Would expect Rodgers to return.— Greg Stubley (@GregStubley3) December 9, 2015
Garry Monk getting sacked by Swansea proves you can't even have a dip in form anymore without losing your job, crazy game— Rob Washford (@RobWashford) December 9, 2015
Sacking Garry Monk: Absolutely not the correct decision. Club legend let down by players who didn't play their part in getting them up.— Oliver Roderick (@olrodlegacy) December 9, 2015
