David Gold has defended the way West Ham United handled Manuel Lanzini’s injury situation on Twitter.
Lanzini was forced to sit out of the Hammers’ match against Manchester United at the weekend, but it was originally reported that his injury was a minor one.
However, it has now been announced that the attacking midfielder will have to spend at least six-weeks on the sidelines.
The misinformation West Ham fans received about Lanzini’s injury has obviously annoyed the side’s supporters, but Gold has defended the club.
We were told by the experts that Lanzini would be OK and we shared that information with you. Clearly a mistake. dg https://t.co/t1hkLrYcId— David Gold (@davidgold) December 8, 2015
Gold also backed West Ham's medical team, even though a number of Slaven Bilic’s key players are currently on the treatment table.
I'm sorry but this is an insult to our medical staff who are dedicated, loyal professionals who care passionately.dg https://t.co/JByWs7UHNR— David Gold (@davidgold) December 8, 2015
Lanzini’s absence is a big blow for the Hammers, as he has been one of the stars of their season so far.
The Argentine has provided goals and creativity, and West Ham’s attacking options are severely weakened without him.
As well as Lanzini, West Ham are also having to deal with injuries to Diafra Sakho, Dimitri Payet, Victor Moses and Enner Valencia.
