The Everton star has recently returned from an injury picked up in the summer.
The full-back recently featured from the bench against Crystal Palace, as he continues his return from an injury picked up before the start of the season.
That leaves Martinez with a decision to make about whether Baines should make an instant return to his side now he is fully fit once again.
In his absence, youngster Brendan Galloway has stepped up and impressed in the side, with him looking accomplished in the left-back spot despite his tender years and lack of top-flight experience.
It would be cruel to drop him instantly now that Baines is back, especially given how the Everton defence has looked settled alongside him.
Instead, should Martinez consider moving Baines into a left wing spot to get both players into his side?
It is certainly a move that would suit him; he has more than proved his attacking abilities over the years for the Blues.
It would also allow Everton to get more protection down their left hand side, with Arouna Kone having been found wanting in his defensive duties at times this season, leaving Galloway exposed.
Bringing in Baines would fix that, although the side would lose the positive effect that the Ivorian forward has had on the team this year, and Romelu Lukaku in particular.
There is no doubt that Baines needs to be in this side, and putting him in on the left wing could be a solution to what is currently a problem area for Roberto Martinez.
